That divide reflects a deeper shift in buyer behavior. A 2025 survey from the Gemstone Ethics and Sustainability Institute found that 64 percent of buyers in the US and Europe preferred lab-grown stones for personal or gift purchases. The top reasons included transparency of origin, environmental impact, and control over quality.

Because the environment is controlled, the risk of instability is significantly reduced. There are fewer fractures, fewer hidden treatments, and no need for oil or resin filling.
